Kevin Ford, a worker in the food service industry, recently shared an Instagram video showing the unwrapping of a thank you present he received for 27 years of flawless attendance at work. This caused outrage on social media on behalf of Kevin Ford.
They decided to offer Ford their own present for his exceptional service, $270,000 in personal donations for the guy so close to retirement, seeing as how it contained a reusable Starbucks cup, a lot of sweets, a pen, and a single movie ticket.
Although the original unwrapping video gained 2 million views, not everyone was as content and forgiving as Kevin, who expressed gratitude for each gift he received.
“Did they really only give him ONE movie ticket tho??” On the TikTok version of the video, one user commented.
“And he’s so humble and kind about it. This pisses me off so much. He deserves so much more,” On Reddit, a different user commented.
In the wake of his retirement, Ford’s daughter Seryna created a GoFundMe page, noting that, in fact, he had never missed a planned shift.
“The man in that video is my father. He originally began working at this job as a single father when he gained custody of me and my older sister 27 years ago. In no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money but if anyone feels like blessing him he would love to visit his grandchildren,” Seryna stated.
This sensitive appeal for appreciation of a decent man who works at the Burger King at the McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas garnered a quarter-million dollars in less than a week, including $5,000 from author and comedian David Spade.
Burger King, the restaurant where Mr. Ford works, and HMSHost, the employment agency that manages it, both indicated in comments that the present was a peer-to-peer acknowledgment rather than a franchise reward for 27 years of flawless service.
“For all those years, you feel unappreciated, but you get up just like everybody else. You do your job, and for somebody to show this appreciation is just overwhelming,” Ford said during an interview. “It’s like I’ve been in a dream for almost two days now. It’s just so beautiful and awesome.
