This homeless man found a $10,000 check on the street in New Haven, Connecticut but the only thing he wanted to do was find out who it belonged to.
Elmer Alvarez picked up a check on the street when a businesswoman had unknowingly dropped it on the sidewalk. With the help of a friend he made a phone call to the owner of the check, Roberta Hoskie.
“I was just thinking about how that person must be feeling after losing an amount of a check like that. I’d be feeling kind of desperate: Alvarez said.
When the phone rang Hoskie was surprised. She hadn’t even realized that the check was missing. She made arrangements for Elmer to come to the Chamber of Commerce for a meeting.
He had no idea what was about to happen. Reporters were called to report on this incredible moment.
” There was a time in my life where I wouldn’t be able to give anything. To be able to be in a position to give, it’s so heartfelt. He didn’t know that I was a single mother. I at one point was on welfare. At one point found myself homeless.”
Hoske set out on a mission to help Elmer. She helped him get a job, a place to live and rent paid for 6 months. Education was arranged for him as well into Real Estate School and English Lessons.
“There needs to be more people like Elmer Alvarez,” said Hoskie. “He’s a golden heart guy. He’s a phenomenal guy.”
When someone gets down on their luck then become very desperate. However, Alvarez never gave it a second thought.
