No woman ever likes to step on the scale to reveal their weight. New moms can be especially sensitive to their results. Mariah Kaitlyn Herrera lost all of her self-love when she stepped on the scale postpartum.

Thanks to one special nurse, new moms are now being slightly relieved from the pressure of the scale.

After noticing the consistent depression of new moms seeing their postpartum weight, a general care nurse posted a powerfully worded sticky note in front of the scale. The note read: “This scale will only tell you the numerical value of your gravitational pull. It will not tell you how beautiful you are, how much your friends and family love you, or how amazing you are!!”

The kind words lifted Herrera’s spirits so much she wanted to spread the joy. She posted a picture of the note to her Instagram account later that day with the caption: “This is the second time I’ve seen this in the doctor’s office and I LOVE IT. SERIOUSLY these should come with every scale! Completely changes how I feel about stepping on the scale especially because I know I’m working on myself.”

Mariah has been working to improve her health since her 9-month pregnancy. She has been on a 5-month weight loss mission which hasn’t been easy for her. She even said, “I wanted to cry before I got on the scale because I know I’m not at the point that I wanted to be.” The note on the scale served as a nice pick-me-up.

She explains, “I had a terrible pregnancy, a complicated delivery, and a 100-plus pound weight gain. I ate everything in sight when I was pregnant and it completely altered everything in my body.”

After all the changes her body has been through, stepping on the scale was so much more emotional for Mariah. “Taking my weight has always been my least favorite part about going to the doctor but since having a baby that feeling has just gotten 10 times worse.”

Doing everything she could to get back to her normal self again, Herrera was prescribed anti-anxiety medication for her postpartum condition. She went in for a check-up and that is where she found the mood boosting note. Feeling so empowered after reading the note, Mariah didn’t even let the nurse tell her what the scale said. Mariah claims she “walked out of the office feeling confident”. She says she felt like a “completely different person”.

“The other day I was laying down with Isaiah and looking at him and thought I don’t know how I could ever feel bad about my body,” Mariah said. “I made that in my belly and I shouldn’t be mad about the end result because I have him out of it.”

The nurse behind the meaningful note thought nothing of it when she posted the note. She believes it is something every woman should know and should often be reminded. The nurse thought it was so obvious, she didn’t even want to be recognized for posting it.

Herrera left the doctor’s office feeling like a brand new woman with a whole new outlook on the way she views her body. Let’s be real, we have to give mothers all the credit they deserve.

Bodies are beautiful things that can create miracles, we need to start respecting such beauty!
