Think about the most cuddly animal you’ve ever met. What’s the first animal that comes to mind? Is it a dog? A cat?
Well, typically that is the case. But this story doesn’t have a regular cuddly dog or house cat. But instead, one animal that no one would ever imagine… A Cheetah.
Although they are wild animals, cheetahs, such as Eden, could be mistaken for an adorable and loving pet. But Eden wasn’t always so affectionate. Just ask Dolph Volker, who first met her back in 2014.
Volker had started volunteering at Cheetah Experience in South Africa when he first met Eden. The two didn’t spend a lot of time together in the beginning. In fact, it seemed like she wanted nothing to do with Volker. But when he returned the following year, everything changed.
It took some time for Eden to open up, but when she did, the two were seemingly inseparable. According to Dolph, she is the most friendly cheetah he’s ever seen. She will snuggle up with him, and give him a ton of kisses.
“The more she felt comfortable with me, the more she treated me just like another Cheetah which included the grooming, nibbling, biting, pacifying, purring, laying on me, and sleeping…cuddling close to me. I’m amazed how much more interactive and affectionate Cheetahs are compared to the average domesticated cat,” wrote Volker on YouTube.
And of course, Dolph feels honored that Eden would take such a liking to him. And we think it is absolutely amazing. Just watching this video shows how much they truly trust one another, and it is the most precious thing in the world.
