They saved the dog who was on an adoption list for over a year from being euthanized. And very quickly, the dog saved them and many others in their neighborhood. This rescued dog became a heroic rescuer.
A month ago, Kailey was on death row at a shelter in Georgia after waiting for a year to be adopted. Because of abuse in the dog’s past, she was very introverted and may snap at someone she didn’t know who tried to touch her.
Suzy Chandler decided to give the shepherd mix a chance and adopted her just in time to save her.
Almost immediately, Kailey returned the favor by sniffing out a gas leak in Chandler’s home. “All of a sudden she just started barking and looking at us and growling, like trying to get our attention and I said well what’s the matter with her,” Chandler said.
Suzy took the dog outside and the very agitated dog immediately pulled her to the side of the house. There, Chandler got a strong smell of gas and she heard a loud rushing sound. She called 911 right away. “I just don’t take the chances on people lives like this, it is a dangerous situation,” said Chandler.
Because of Kailey’s keen sense of smell and Chandler’s quick response, the leak was found, fixed and many in the neighborhood were saved.
Chandler hopes that this story will cause people to give hard to adopt dogs a chance. “If you have the space, you have room in your heart to take in a needy animal, to love on them, I mean it comes back to you tenfold,” she shared.
