Mikal Bartosik, a Cheerleader from Florida, has struck a chord in many hearts during these past few days.  Not just with us, but also with Jonathan, an 18-year-old student with autism.

As a senior in Park Vista Highschool, Mikal had already attended the prom twice.  This year, she was determined to make it more…she was determined to make it special.  Despite friends and family shying away from her idea, Mikal had a brilliant idea for a prom date.

When Mikal came into the special education classroom, someone tells Jonathan he has a guest with a question.  At this point we can see she is carrying balloons and a cookie cake.  JMR(Jonathan’s nickname), lit up with joy as he read the statement on the cookie cake, “Will you go to the prom with me?”  Before we can shed a tear of joy, JMR is dancing around the room in excitement.  He was so excited he didn’t answer her question and we can hear someone chime in, “so is that a yes?”

Popsugar referenced one of her teachers saying, “It was like something you see in the movies, I cried.”  She’s not the only one!  We later found out that Mikal also commented on the occasion saying, “Personally, I think this is going to be the most special prom for me because I’ll be making someone else happy.”

Don’t fool yourself, this friendship started before this promposal.  Long before she asked him to prom, Mikal had been spending her lunchtime with Jonathan and his classmates.  As soon as she found out that Jonathan wanted to go to prom she wanted to figure something out.  When she later found out that none of the special education students had been to prom the previous year she vowed not to give up.

We’re positive they will dance the night away!
